Organized by Fortnight Institute, this online group show includes paintings, prints, and photography-based pieces by Balarama Heller, Florian Maier-Aichen, Peter Shear, and Sue Williams. The works on view capture a palpable, "maelstrom"-like energy through these artists' use of line and color.

The compositions reflect varying degrees of abstraction. Heller’s photographs, for instance, call to mind phosphenes—the flashes of light we see when we close our eyes.

From 303 Gallery:

Maelstroms, referenced by the Dutch in the 17th century, evoke portals to mythical worlds accessed through a vortex of colliding forces. In this selection of works…elements of form, line, light, energy, and color whirl together.

Peter Shear, Shorthand, 2019. Oil on canvas, 12 x 16 inches.
