Multi-disciplinary artist Rachel Klinghoffer repurposes collected materials from friends, family, and other personal relationships, making them into sculptural paintings that symbolize her own nostalgia. The work represents an overarching connection to femininity, craft-making, Judaism, and romance, but specifically in 2020, it provides a ray of light in hazy uncertain times. For the artist, making this new body was about finding safety, comfort, productivity, and optimism, even in isolation. Collecting materials for this show (while contactless) helped the artist embrace this new adapted version of connecting with our friends & family. On view through January 16, If You Like Piña Coladas features 14 pieces, comprised of select items like a balloon from her son's birth, a bra given to her by a collector, an Ellsworth Kelly postage stamp, a piece of her "best recovery" first place ribbon achieved from a horseback riding accident at sleep away camp, and Swarovski crystal.
